Worried at the formation of a polls-time cabinet, leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia will meet President Abdul Hamid tomorrow to request him to take steps for formation of a non-party govt to oversee the next parliamentary election.
Sources at the Bangabhaban, the president’s official residence, said the BNP chief will meet the president at 6:30pm.
“She (Khaleda) has sought appointment from the president since he is the supreme authority in the country at this moment who can take initiative to resolve the present political stalemate,” Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, a standing committee member of BNP, told The Daily Star.
According to sources, Khaleda sent the letter requesting for appointment this morning, hours after Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina met the president as part of her move to form an all-party polls-time government.
Khaleda had long been opposing the PM’s move and demanding a neutral non-party caretaker government to oversee the next general election.
