The Election Commission (EC) has finally given registration to the
much-talked-about Bangladesh Nationalists Front (BNF) as a political
party.
EC Secretary Muhammed Sadique today handed over the registration certificate to the party’s Chief Coordinator Abul Kalam Azad at the EC Secretariat in the capital.
BNF got television as electoral symbol and party logo.
“We have given registration to it since the party has now fulfilled all requirements,” Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz told reporters.
BNF applied to the EC for registration in October last year. It came in discussion after seeking ‘sheaf of wheat’ as the party symbol.
The main opposition BNP urged the EC several times not to give registration to the BNF as the party used the photograph of BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman and picked sheaf of wheat as electoral symbol, which looks a bit similar to BNP’s symbol of sheaf of paddy.
“I think there will be no more debate on the party because its symbol does not look similar to any other party.”
