Five people involved in the gang rape of a wife in two phases after her husband was forcibly thrown out of a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Laksam, Comilla, have been brought to court. They were brought to the Comilla District Court at around 10:30 am today, Monday.
Laksam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Sultana confirmed to Samakal that all those involved in the incident have been arrested. She said that the arrested have initially confessed to their involvement in the incident. Among them is a woman, in whose house the housewife was raped in the second phase.
Meanwhile, in Laksam, the house of former Local Government Minister Md. Tajul Islam is again in discussion. Which is known as Mantri Bari in the area. On August 5 last year, the day the government fell, the house in Laksam municipality was extensively vandalized by angry people. The house was the first victim of gang rape in that abandoned house.
According to the couple, the police said that last Thursday (March 13), the housewife came to Laksam with her husband to her in-laws' house. The next morning, they boarded a CNG car from the Laksam bypass intersection to return home. At that time, the CNG driver Md. Masud asked them if they were his husband and wife and expressed suspicion about it. At one stage, he took them to the Gandamara area of Laksam. At that time, the accused searched their bags. Later, in a planned manner, they took them to the Magbari area of the neighboring Lalmai upazila, abandoned the husband, kidnapped his wife and took them to Laksam.
The police further said that later, the victim was taken to an abandoned house of Mohabbat Ali, brother-in-law of former local government minister Tajul Islam and general secretary of the upazila Awami League, in the Paikpara area of Laksam. There, the accused Md. Masud and Mohammad Ali raped her. The victim was then taken to the rented house of Bilkis Akhter Kalpana, an acquaintance of the accused, in Talukder Villa, Ward No. 8 of Laksam Municipality, and raped again. Later, with the help of locals, the housewife was rescued. The woman's mother filed a case with Laksam Police Station on Sunday.
Police conducted a drive in this incident and arrested 5 people throughout the day on Sunday. The arrested are Mohammad Ali (25), son of the deceased Khalilur Rahman of the Monoharpur area of Laksam Upazila, Md. Masud (23), son of Md. Momin of the Sreepur Madhyapara area of the municipality, Monir Hossain Hridoy (23), son of Abu Taher of the Batakhali area, Al Amin (23), son of the deceased Siddiqur Rahman of the Uttar Binai area, and Bilkis Akhter Kalpana (40), wife of the deceased Mostafiz Majumdar of the Madhya Laksam area.
Laksam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Sultana told Samakal on Monday morning, "Based on the complaint of the victim's family, all those involved in the incident have been arrested and handed over to the court. Some of them may voluntarily give a statement under Section 164. The victim is being treated at the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Comilla Medical College Hospital."
