Bride’s Accidental Text Leads to Wedding Crashers, a Trending Hashtag, and Controversy

Westillcoming

Is this the story of a photo gone viral, or just the latest internet hoax?
When most people accidentally text a wrong number, the other person usually texts back “you have the wrong number” or “this isn’t so-and-so” and everyone moves on with their lives.
Not in the case of bride-to-be Kristen from Detroit, Michigan. She sent out an invite to friends for a “BBQ and wedding photos” following her wedding ceremony, and accidentally sent it to a complete stranger.
The stranger let Kristen know that she had the wrong number but said, “me and my boys will be there.” She explained that the invite was not for strangers and he texted back, “we still coming.”
Staying true to his word, the guy showed up with a group of friends, which lead to a priceless photo of the wedding crashers and wedding party in front of Michigan Central Station in Detroit. Even crazier, as the image got shared over social media, was that the man’s “we still coming” statement became a top-trending hashtag that’s now being used by people everywhere.
As with most popular posts these days, this one is meeting with some skepticism.  While one post titled, “Inviting the Detroit neighborhood to join your wedding photo. Priceless.” on Reddit seems to confirm the story, other sources have claimed that it took place in England. (Though clearly the photo’s background is from Detroit.)
Several sources have suggested that this might just be an elaborate hoax. A YouTube video (shown below) of the wedding crashers rapping and dancing with the wedding party that was uploaded July 1st — nearly a month before the photo went viral — has also caused people to question the validity of the whole text conversation.
Either way, we got a good laugh out of it. What do you think? Was it fun, lame, or a silly hoax? Let us know in the comments below.
