'FB users in alternative way under scanner'

State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim has said the Facebook users, who are using the popular social networking site in alternative way despite the restriction, have been brought under monitoring scanner.
“The government has blocked Facebook and online messaging services WhatsApp and Viber until further notice on security grounds. The state authorities have been monitoring the people who are using those in alternative way,” said Tarana.

The state minister made the statement as the chief guest in a roundtable on mobile handset and security” hosted by Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) in Westin Hotel of the capital on Saturday morning.
Tarana continued: “The task of monitoring becomes easy due to low traffic. As a result, we have been easily informed the users' activities and that is why we are running monitoring through keeping some apps and the Facebook blocked.”
She urged upon the countrymen to tolerate the temporary suffering for the sake of the country while the move would ensure long-term security.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Dr Shahjahan Mahmud attended the programme as special guest.
