A section of transport workers today threatened to lay a siege to the Gulshan office of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia tomorrow protesting the ongoing street-violence in the country.
Two organisations of the transport workers – Sammilito Gari Chalok Somaj and Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik League – issued the threat through separate press statements today, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Sammilito Gari Chalok Somaj said they would besiege Khaleda’s office for “terrorism, anarchy, bombings, sabotage and arson in the name of so called hartals and blockades.”
They say they will march to the BNP chief’s office after staging a rally in front of National Press Club at 11:00am tomorrow (Thursday).
The other organisation, Paribahan Sramik League, a pro-ruling Awami League body, announced of similar programme at 10:00am.
Today is the 16th day of the BNP-led 20-party combine’s countrywide blockade which killed 26 civilians in violence so far, including 16 who had no reported affiliation to politics.
Today is also the first day of a 48-hour hartal sponsored by the alliance clamped in Dhaka and Khulna divisions on top of the blockade which the BNP chief Khaleda Zia said “will continue”.
