Importance on participation of women in preventing corruption stressed

RANGPUR, Dec 22, 2014 (BSS) - Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Badiuzzaman at a discussion here today put importance on participation of the women in preventing corruption from the society.

He was addressing the discussion on "Women's role in Corruption Prevention," jointly organised by the Combined District Office of ACC and District Corruption Prevention Committee (DCPC) at Begum Rokeya auditorium in the city as the chief guest.
Head of Programme Coordination of RDRS Bangladesh Monjusree Saha presided over the discussion.
Director General (Prevention and Research) of ACC Dr Shamsul Arefin, Deputy Director of the Combined District Office of ACC Kamrul Ahsan, President of DCPC Professor Mozammel Haque, Professor of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya University Dr Sharifa Salwa Dina addressed.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shahidul Islam, Community Action Coordinator of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) Benoy Kumar Jha, also spoke.

Representatives of different government and non-government service providing organisations, professional forums, educational institutions and guardians of the students, women representatives from different professions and media workers participated.
Taking part in the open discussion, the participants narrated their experiences about corruption that takes place at different levels in different ways and forwarded various suggestions for prevention of the social disease.
Professor Mozammel Haque stressed for raising voice against corruption that takes place at the family, social and state levels at various ways as not only monetary bribery, but negligence in conducting responsibility or duty is also corruption.
Dr Shamsul Arefin said the ACC wants to ensure enhanced participation of the women in all sorts of corruption prevention activities to reduce the social disease through taking effective initiatives at the personal level.
"The school-based 'Satota Sanghas' have been working towards the directions and the local initiatives would further strengthen activities of these school-based organisations in reducing corruptions," he said.
In his speech, the ACC Chairman agreed with the arguments presented in the open discussion by the women that most of the corruptions are being committed by the males at the local levels.
At the sometime, the women, as the wives or daughters, could play vital role in preventing corruption through motivating the males at homes, he said adding that participation of women is very important for prevention of corruption.
