2 held with 43 gold bars, ornaments at Shahjalal Airport


DHAKA, Dec 22, 2014 (BSS)- Customs officials, in separate drives, today arrested two persons with 43 gold bars and ornaments worth about Taka 2.58 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport (HSIA) here.

Director general (DG) of HSIA customs intelligence Mainul Khan told BSS that one Anis Mia, 23, who arrived here from Chittagong by a domestic flight of Bangladesh Biman (BG-048), was arrested with 38 gold bars at about 11am.

He said the gold bars, each weighing 10 tolas, were reportedly trafficked from Dubai to Chittagong.

In another early hours drive, Farid Matbor, 42, was also arrested with seven gold bars and ornaments weighing 734 grams from the green channel area of the airport.

"We recovered the gold bars and ornaments after searching Farid's socks. The seized bars and ornaments worth about TK 38 lakh." assistant commissioner of Customs Intelligence Farid-Al-Mamun told this news agency.

Separate cases were lodged with Airport Police Station.
