Saarc leaders reach last-minute energy deal

Heads of Saarc nations reached an energy cooperation agreement among the member countries during the concluding session of the two-day summit ends in Kathmandu today.
“The agreement will pave the way to share the energy from one member country to another,” Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala told reporters after the concluding session.
On the last day of the summit, the leaders flew to a mountain resort near Nepal’s capital Kathmandu and agreed on Saarc Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation (Electricity) where electricity will be shared among the members through a common grid. About the progress to ink Saarc Motor Vehicles Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger and Cargo Vehicular Traffic amongst Saarc member states, the Nepali Prime Minister said communication ministers of the Saarc member countries will finalise the issue by the next three months.
