Director General of BorderGuard Bangladesh Major General Aziz Ahmed has expressed satisfaction with the verdict over February 2009 carnage at then BDR headquarters.
“The families and the souls of those who were killed will be able to rest in peace,” he said in his immediate reaction after the verdict was delivered today.
A court in Dhaka awarded death to 152 while 160 others were given life imprisonment for their role in the carnage.
“The mark of shame that had been associated with the force will be lifted with the verdict”, the BGB chief said outside a makeshift court at Bakshibazar in the capital.
“The perpetrators of the 2009 mutiny have been given a proper and exemplary punishment after a long trial,” he added.
Asked whether the 271 acquitted in the case would be given back their jobs, he said that another case – the explosives case — was pending against them, and the matter would be looked into if they are proved innocent of all the charges.
