As the prosecution has failed to prove the charges against 271 out of
850 accused in the Pilkhana carnage case, the acquitted flashed V-sign
and cheered with joy inside the courtroom today.
They went out of the courtroom with a sigh of relief after Judge Md
Akhtaruzzaman pronounced the verdict, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
On February 25-26 in 2009, 74 people including 57 top and mid-ranking
army officers were killed by the erstwhile BDR (now Border Border Guard
Bangladesh) personnel during a mutiny inside the BDR headquarters.
The court awarded death to 152 including a deputy assistant director
of then Bangladesh Rifles Tauhidul Islam and life-term to 160 others for
their role in the carnage.
Nabajuti Khisha, then officer-in-charge of Lalbagh police station,
filed the case on February 28 in connection with the killings.
The case was later shifted to the Criminal Investigation Department.
