A defamation case has been filed against 18 people, including Tejgaon College teacher Lata Samaddar, in the tip-off incident three years ago. Nazmul Tarek, a constable of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who was dismissed after the incident, filed the case in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.
The court has ordered the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station to investigate the case. Tanvir Khan, bench assistant of the CMM court, confirmed this information to Prothom Alo on Thursday.
Court-related sources say that the names of several actors and actresses, including Lata Samaddar, are in the case. Among them are Suborna Mustafa, Saymon Sadik, Anisur Rahman Milan and Jyotika Jyoti.
Nazmul Tarek mentioned in the case that his pictures and statements were circulated on social media to defame him in the society over the tip-off incident. Through this, he has faced serious losses in his professional and social life.
In April 2022, Nazmul Tarek was accused of harassing Lata Samaddar at the capital's Farmgate for wearing a tip. After Lata Samaddar's complaint, Nazmul Tarek was temporarily suspended from his job. He was then fired. Nazmul Tarek filed a case in the Administrative Tribunal challenging the dismissal order. At the same time, he also applied to the police headquarters to get his job back.
After losing his job in the tip-off incident, Nazmul Tarek claimed innocence. He said that action was taken against him without any evidence in the incident. He was deprived of justice.
