A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Fiji Islands on Monday, but there were no immediate reports of damage. Reuters reported.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake struck south of the islands at 8:03 a.m. local time on Monday. The epicenter was at a depth of 174 kilometers (108 miles).
The US Tsunami Warning System confirmed that there was no threat of a tsunami despite the strong earthquake, as it was deep in the ocean. There were no reports of damage from the earthquake.
