The High Court has issued a rule asking why the 30-day detention order of actress and Miss Earth Bangladesh-2020 winner Meghna Alam under the Special Powers Act should not be illegal.

A High Court bench headed by Justice Razik Al Jalil issued the rule on Sunday.

Barrister Sara Hossain and lawyer Zahed Iqbal heard the writ petition in the court.

Earlier, on April 10, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court ordered actress and Miss Earth Bangladesh-2020 winner Meghna Alam to be kept in jail for 30 days under the Special Powers Act.

Model Meghna Alam won the Miss Earth Bangladesh competition on October 5, 2020. She is also the chairman of a non-profit organization called Miss Bangladesh Foundation.

Discussions about Meghna Alam began on April 9. That night, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) arrested her from her house in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The DB produced Meghna Alam in court at around 10:30 pm. Later, the court ordered her to be sent to jail for 30 days under the powers conferred by Section 3(1) of the Special Powers Act.

The order mentioned that this detention order has been issued to prevent public safety and harmful activities contrary to law and order and to maintain law and order under Section 2(f) of the Special Powers Act of 1974. Later, Meghna Alam was sent to Kashimpur Jail.

Earlier, while on Facebook Live, Meghna alleged that people wearing police identification broke down the door of her house and entered inside. The live was stopped after about 12 minutes and was later deleted.

Meanwhile, model Meghna Alam's father Badrul Alam alleged that his daughter was a victim of fraud. He told Samakal, "My daughter Meghna was a victim of fraud by the recently departed ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Isa bin Yusuf Al Duhailan. My daughter was intimate with him for six months. They had known each other for two to three months.

Badrul Alam said that Meghna had created a foundation called 'Miss Bangladesh'. Through it, she organized various events in the country and abroad. Many prominent and talented people used to come there. She first met the ambassador at one such event in Dhaka. An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows everything. He cooperated with the two. After that, Meghna and the outgoing ambassador gradually became close. He proposed a romantic relationship at one stage. Then he wanted to get married. Badrul claimed that Meghna and Duhailan exchanged rings on December 4. However, he could not show any evidence to support the claim.

He said that Meghna used to come and go to the outgoing ambassador's house in Bashundhara. At one stage of the relationship, Meghna found out that he had a wife and children. Then she returned the ring. She did not want to be someone's second wife. She told the Saudi ambassador's wife about the incident. After that, the outgoing ambassador became angry and started threatening her. At one point, Meghna posted something about it on Facebook. After that, Duhailan filed a complaint against Meghna.

Meghna's father also said that despite knowing that she had been cheated, Meghna wanted the outgoing ambassador to come to her and express her regret. But he did not do that. On the contrary, she was arrested by the police without any charges. Attempts to resolve the matter failed in the end.
