Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has commented that Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, is performing one magic trick after another. He said that Muhammad Yunus is working very honestly. He has no greed for power, he wants to work for the country. However, if they want to prolong the power of the interim government with him, there will be a debate.
Manna said, ‘I see some people want to force Professor Yunus to stay in power for five years, but why?’
Manna said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled ‘Review of National Principles’ organized by ‘Janashakti Sabha’. The meeting was held at the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club today, Tuesday.Mahmudur Rahman said, ‘Dr. Yunus is performing magic in all his works. Otherwise, how come the prices of commodities are decreasing instead of increasing during Ramadan? How is the Eid pilgrimage so beautiful? How is electricity management so good even during Ramadan? For this reason, Dr. We all need to support Yunus.’
Mahmudur Rahman said, ‘People have already understood that the chief advisor has no greed for power, he wants to work for the country. As far as I understand, Dr. Yunus wants to leave as soon as possible by giving his vote. But I see some people want to force him to stay in power for five years, but why? He is doing good work, so if you think he should be kept for the welfare of the country, then think of an alternative. Why should he be kept in power for a long time and make it controversial?’
Regarding the state policy, Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, ‘Let the debate continue on this. We have to contain dissent. We have to give dissent a chance to speak. I do not agree with the proposal of the Reform Commission on the state policy. The Citizens’ Union does not agree with more than a hundred proposals of the Reform Commission.’
Mahmudur Rahman Manna also said, ‘The state is not supposed to be in favor of any religion. But if you want to separate the state from religion, then some will raise the question of anti-semitism. Pluralism can play a good role in this area. However, there are many who are in favor of keeping socialism as the state principle. I am not in favor of this. For my party, socialism is not our goal now. After the collapse of socialism in various countries including Russia, it seems that socialism is not needed as a state principle.’
Sadeq Rahman, President of the Ganashakti Sabha, moderated the program.
