Hostages held at gunpoint: Cops

Star Online Report
Hostages were being held at gunpoint inside the Gulshan restaurant in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone where all attention converged this evening, according to a top police official.
“Some people are being held at gunpoint,” said Monirul Islam, police’s additional commissioner who is also the chief of Dhaka’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit.
However, he did not elaborate on the number of hostages being held captive at the Holey Artisan Bakery on Road 79. Neither did he confirm whether there were foreigners being held.
"They (hostages) were told not try to escape or scream; otherwise they will be shot," he said at 11:50pm.
SECURITY ALERT RAISED THROUGH COUNTRY
Police across Bangladesh have been told to beef up security in wake of the incident.
A top police official at police headquarters told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity around 11:50pm that the security alert was raised countrywide after the Gulshan incident.
