Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's Comilla Victorians will take on
Mahmudullah Riyad's Barisal Bulls in the final of the Bangladesh Premier
League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
The match will begin at 6:30pm and will be broadcast live on Channel 9.
The two teams had met twice in group stages and on both occasions, with Victorians winning by big margin on both occasions.
While speaking to reporters yesterday, Mashrafe said that while he
expects a tougher contest from the Bulls in the final, he also expects
his side to give it their all as well.
The Victorians' strength has so far been their unfaltering team
spirit. They may not have too many big names, but the players looked
extremely determined in each of their games and managed to give their
best throughout the tournament. The key player for them will be Ashar
Zaidi, a key contender for the player-of-the-tournament award, having
scored 199 runs at an average of 66 and taken 16 wickets with his
left-arm spin.
Bull, on the other hand, have depended upon a host of match-winners.
In almost each of their games, they have found someone new to rely on.
Their West Indian players -- Evin Lewis, Rayad Emrit and Kevon Cooper --
have been the revelations of the tournament. Chris Gayle might have
left early, but Sabbir Rahman has made up for the Jamaican's absence by
hitting at the right time. His last two knocks suggest that the
all-rounder is eager to end the BPL on a high.
