The number-one allrounder in one-day cricket has begun a new innings –
that of parenthood – as his wife gave birth to a baby girl early today.
His wife Umme Ahmed Shishir delivered the baby girl around 2:00am
(Bangladesh time) in the United States, said Shakib’s mother Shirin
Akhter.
Both mother and child are sound and safe, she told reporters this
morning. Shakib is said to have reached New York and is now with his
daughter and wife.
Shakib left for the US last night. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)
Director Khaled Mahmud said Shakib cited emergency reasons and the board
let him go.
The ace Bangladesh cricketer is expected to remain out of the rest of the Zimbabwe series.
Married for almost three years since December 2012, Shakib announced
on October 26 that he and his wife were expecting a baby daughter soon.
