Asked about the identity of the attacker who was chased down later, the police officer declined to do so for the sake of investigation.
Describing the man, locals said he was wearing shirt and lungi and has beard.
In a press release issued in the afternoon, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said a pedestrian struck an on-duty military police with a sharp weapon from behind in Kafrul.
"The military police has been slightly injured. Other on-duty members of the armed forces detained a suspected attacker,” reads the press release.
An investigation is already underway to unearth the details, it adds.
The incident took place at 8:45am when Samidul was working at a checkpost at Kachukhet near Dhaka Cantonment along with 3-4 colleagues.
A man, aged around 30, crossed the road from the other side and swooped on the military police with a machete, witnesses said.
