Three suspects including Safiur Rahman Farabi were placed on a week
in remand each over killing of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das in Sylhet on May
12.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Anwarul Haque passed the order today
after the case’s investigating officer CID Inspector Arman Ali produced
the trio and sought 15-day remand each.
The court fixed November 19 as the hearing date on the charges, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports.
Blogger Ananta Bijoy Das was hacked to death by a group of masked men
on broad daylight at Subid Bazar area in Sylhet. A case was filed in
this regard the next day.
The case was later handed to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for quick disposition.
Farabi, the man who threatened to kill writer Avijit Roy on Facebook,
was shown arrested yesterday in Ananta Bijoy Das killing case, the IO
said.
On November 4, Dulal Biswas, Abul Hasan and Jafran Hasan, members of
banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team were shown arrested in
case, he added.
Ananta’s brother Ratneshwar Das said: “I have seen the news of three
remanded from television. I want capital punishment for those who
murdered my younger brother.
