A Dhaka court today sent four war crimes accused including Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Hannan and his son Rafique Sajjad to jail.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque passed the order after police produced them before the court.
The two other accused are: Khandakar Golam Sabbir Ahmed and Mizanur Rahman Mintu.
The court also directed the authorities to send the case documents to the International Crimes Tribunal-1 by Sunday.
Mohammad Ali Sheikh, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mymensingh
Kotwali Police Station, said the accused were produced before the court
after consulting with the authorities at the tribunal which was closed
today.
Meanwhile, another war crimes accused, Hormuj Ali, was admitted to
Dhaka Medical College Hospital today as he got injured in a road
accident following his arrest in the same case yesterday.
Police arrested Hannan, a lawmaker from Trishal (Mymensingh-7
constituency) and presidium member of Jatiya Party, his son and three
other war crimes accused yesterday, hours after the tribunal issued
arrest warrants for eight people.
Gulshan police arrested Hannan, the alleged general secretary of
Mymensingh Peace Committee, an anti-liberation organisation in 1971,
from his Gulshan residence while his son from his office in the same
area Thursday. Later, they were taken to the office of Detective Branch
of police in Dhaka for “security ground”, police said.
While Mymensingh police arrested Sabbir, Mizanur and Hormuj from their respective homes in the district on Thursday.
Three other accused -- Mohammad Abdus Sattar, Mohammad Fakruzzaman and Khandakar Golam Rabbani-- were yet to be detained.
