Stocks ended the week almost flat amid mixed performance in different
sectors, back to business fresh from Eid-ul-Azha holidays. DSEX, the
benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose only 4.88 points or
0.1 percent to finish the last day of the week at 4,856.96 points.
Investor participation remained low as the market was yet to come out of the holiday mood, IDLC Investments said.
The market barely maintained positivity during a volatile trading day, the merchant bank said in its regular analysis.
Consolidation around the 4,850 points level continued following the
sell-offs seen in the previous sessions, LankaBangla Securities said.
“Financial stocks came under significant selling pressure over the course of the session,” the stockbroker added.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, dropped 14.4
percent to Tk 42,423 crore with 12.07 crore shares and mutual fund units
changing hands on the DSE.
Of the traded issues, 150 advanced and 128 declined while 42 securities remained static on the premier bourse.
FAR Chemical Industries dominated the turnover chart with 76.37 lakh
shares worth Tk 37.54 crore changing hands, followed by Saif Powertec,
Summit Alliance Port, Appollo Ispat and Desco.
Among the major sectors, mutual funds gained 2.41 percent in market
capitalisation, followed by fuel and power that increased 0.94 percent,
telecom 0.19 percent and food and allied 0.14 percent.
Conversely, non-bank financial institutions lost 0.86 percent, followed by pharma 0.13 percent and bank 0.12 percent.
AIBL 1st Islamic Mutual Fund was the day's best performer gaining 10
percent, while the fourth ICB Mutual Fund was the worst loser with a
3.96 percent fall.
Chittagong stocks also rose marginally with the bourse's benchmark
index, CSCX, increasing 12.84 points or 0.14 percent to finish the day
at 9,047.96 points.
Losers beat gainers 114 to 108, while 25 others ended the week's last working day unchanged on the Chittagong Stock Exchange.
The port city bourse traded 86.89 lakh shares and mutual fund units, worth Tk 26.45 crore in turnover.
