He needed police help to leave the press conference at the food court
of Jackson Heights’ when local Awami League leaders and activists
chased him on Saturday (local time).
US District Judge Vincent L
Briccetti of the Southern District of New York sentenced Caesar, 36, to
three and a half years in prison on Mar 4.
He is the son of Mohammad Ullah Mamun, vice-president of BNP’s cultural wing JaSaS.
They live in Fairfield County in Connecticut.
The court ordered Caesar to appear before it on Apr 20.
Facing
rage of Awami League leaders and activists over the matter in and
outside Bangladesh, Caesar organised the press conference.
Hearing
the news of the press conference, leaders and activists of Awami League
and its affiliates in New York gathered at the food court of the
Jackson Heights around 5:30pm.
Caesar came to the venue around 7pm with two police officers, following his father Mamun.
He sat on the dais with his father and US BNP leaders Mostafa Kamal Pasha, Quazi Azam and Saidur Rahman.
Awami
League activists led by its US unit organising secretary Abul Hasib
entered the food court when he started to distribute copies of his
written speech among journalists.
Raising slogans - ‘He is a
convicted criminal, he has no right to organise press conference’ - they
snatched the copies of Caesar’s speech from him.
He left the food court with the help of the police officers when they chased him.
