48-hr hartal in Dhaka, Khulna divisions from tomorrow

BNP-led alliance will also enforce dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Sylhet district

The BNP-led 20-party alliance will enforce a hartal in Dhaka and Khulna divisions for 48 hours and in Sylhet district for 12 hours from tomorrow morning protesting arrest and killing of its leaders.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) this evening called a shutdown for Wednesday and Thursday in Dhaka division protesting killing of JCD leader Nuruzzaman Jony.
The Khilgaon unit general secretary of the BNP-backed student body was killed in a “gunfight” with police in the capital early today.
The shutdown calls come on the top of the BNP-led combine’s countrywide nonstop blockade that began on January 6 demanding a fresh election under a nonpartisan caretaker administration.
In a press release this evening, BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said a 48-hour hartal will be enforced in Dhaka and Khulna divisions from next morning.
The alliance earlier last night called for a 48-hour shutdown in Khulna division and Dhaka district including the capital city from tomorrow morning.
In Sylhet, the 20-party combine has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district for tomorrow demanding release of its detained leaders and activists.

The hartal will be effective in the district since 6:00am, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting Nasir Hossain, a member of Sylhet city BNP convening committee.
