The Supreme Court will pass tomorrow its orders on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s petitions challenging two High Court decisions regarding acceptance of charge and indictment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. One of the appeals was filed in 2012 challenging an HC verdict that rejected a petition against a lower court order, which accepted charges against Khaleda in the case.
On the other hand, Khaleda filed the other petition with the apex court on July 26 this year challenging another HC verdict that upheld a lower court’s order framing charges against her over the same allegation.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain fixed the date today for passing orders after holding hearing on the two appeals.
The apex court also fixed tomorrow for resuming hearing on another appeal of Khaleda challenging an HC verdict that had upheld the charge framing order against Khaleda by a lower court in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission in 2009 filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzling over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which only exists on papers and the other one in 2011 for abusing power during setting up the charitable trust.
