Biswal inquires Yunus about political situation

Visiting US assistant secretary for South and Central Asian affairs Nisha Desai Biswal today met Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus about the country’s political situation.
“I told her what I have said in the media earlier when she inquired about the prevailing political situation,” Bangla daily Prothom Alo quoted Yunus as saying after the meeting.
They also discussed different issues during the one-hour meeting at US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena’s residence, ranging from Grameen bank and social business to Yunus’ recent visit to Myanmar, the Nobel laureate told reporters.
“As a fan of Grameen Bank, she inquired its current situation. I told her about my worries regarding the bank,” he added.
Bangladesh has made significant progress in socio-economic sector, Biswal said, adding that awareness is essential to continue the progress.
She met with representatives from International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Bangladesh Centre for Workers Solidarity (BCWS) in separate meetings in the morning.
Later, she attended a luncheon organised by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
She is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the afternoon, before meting prominent citizens of the country in the evening at Mozena’s residence.
She will also meet with opposition leader Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office this evening.
