Dialogue not possible under threat: Tofail

Criticising BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for calling a countrywide marathon shutdown, Awami League presidium member Tofail Ahmed today said there could be no dialogue under pressure and threat.
“Dialogue can’t be held in the face of pressure and threat. You (Khaleda) withdraw the hartal first,” Tofail said at a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi office after a meeting of 14-party alliance.
The AL leader urged the people of all walks of life to reject the hartal called by the opposition, and sought their support to keep public life normal and production in industrial units uninterrupted. “We urge people to reject the shutdown.”
He also said Khaleda has stigmatised Suhrawardy Udyan by siding with the war criminals in the public rally.
Awami League senior leader Mohammad Nasim was also present at the press conference.
