Ukraine agrees to ceasefire, awaits Russia's decision

A meeting of mediators was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia in the meeting held on Tuesday. However, whether the ceasefire will take place or not depends on Russia. According to Reuters,

After Ukraine agreed, Moscow said on Wednesday that they would make a decision after learning more about it from the mediator country, the United States.

However, citing multiple Russian sources, Reuters reported that they believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not agree to it.

After Donald Trump was sworn in as US president on January 20, he took the initiative to end the war in Ukraine. But after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House at the end of last month, the situation took a different turn. The Trump administration suspended military aid to Ukraine.

However, now that Ukraine has agreed to a ceasefire, the suspension has been lifted.

After Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire, the United States and its Western allies say the ball is now in Russia's court. Whether Moscow agrees to a ceasefire or not will determine whether they want peace.

Regarding the Ukraine ceasefire, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "It now depends entirely on Russia."
