Tells cops to be more cautious

Hinting that the murder of a policeman in Ashulia is linked to the recent of killing and attacks, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today asked lawmen to be more cautious.
“Today, police were caught off-guard. They must be more cautious while discharging their duties,” the home minister said in a press conference at Savar this morning.
The minister’s warning bell came at a time when intelligence agencies have raised security warning ahead of two imminent verdicts of top war criminals BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.

After the recent attacks on two publishers that left one dead on October 31, an industrial policeman was killed and another injured in an attack carried out by miscreants on a patrolling team of lawmen today.

Also, in Brahmanbaria last night, a patrolling police team came under gunfire.

“I think that all these incidents are linked,” he told reporters while answering a query on whether the killing of this policeman had anything to do with the recent murder and attacks.
“They are all the same, sometimes carrying out subversive activities under the name of Ansarullah, sometimes JMB and sometimes IS (Islamic State),” he said. “Their patronizers are the same.”

The minister, who repeatedly assured that the situation of the country is “stable”, told reporters that the police force is maintaining strong vigilance across the country.
On the note of what the police force will do now, the minister said that relevant instructions will be given to the law enforcers by the inspector general of police soon.
The minister was speaking at a press conference after visiting the injured policeman of Savar attack at Enam Medical College Hospital.

BNP’s Gayeshwar sent to jail in arson case

A day after issuing arrest warrant against BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a Dhaka court today sent the BNP leader to jail after he surrendered before it in an arson case.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Gayeshwar along with his lawyer surrendered before it and sought bail in the case.
Yesterday, the same court issued arrest warrant against Gayeshwar, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Salauddin Ahmed and 32 others in an arson case filed in December 2013.
Salauddin was earlier arrested in India for illegal trespass and is now in jail.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah gave the order after the investigation officer showed them fugitives and prayed for issuance of arrest warrants.
On the same day, the court also asked the officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station to submit report by January 27, 2016 on execution of the warrants.
Fourteen others including Aman Ullah Aman and Mirza Abbas were earlier granted bail in the case.

Police in March this year, pressed charges against 49 including the BNP leaders in the case filed for torching a vehicle at Malibagh Chowdhury Para on December 29, 2013.
On Dec 29, law enforcers went on the action after BNP-led 18-party alliance (now 20-party alliance) brought out a procession in support of BNP's March for Democracy which was set for that day.

Cop killed in attack on patrol team in Ashulia

A police constable was stabbed dead after unknown assailants attacked a patrol team of Ashulia industrial police in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka today.
The victim was identified as Mukul Hossain, 23, our Savar correspondent reports quoting police. Another constable was also injured in the attack.
The attack took place in Baroipara area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway around 7:45am, said Nazmul Hassan, assistant superintendent of Ashulia police.
The policemen were preparing to set up a check post there when a group of about seven people, riding three motorbikes, swooped on them with sharp weapons, he said.

Both Mukul and his colleague Nur-e-Alam were injured on the spot. They were later rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital where Mukul succumbed.
No case was filed until last reported around 11:00am.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan visited the injured attending treatment at the hospital around 11:15am, hours after the incident.
On October 22, an assistant sub-inspector of police died after unknown assailants knifed him at a check post in the capital’s Gabtoli.
