Austria files EU complaint against UK nuclear plant

Afp, Vienna
Austria has filed a legal challenge at the European Court of Justice against EU-granted state subsidies for a new nuclear power plant in Britain, government officials confirmed yesterday.
"Subsidies are there to support modern technologies that lie in the general interest of all EU member states. This is not the case with nuclear power," Chancellor Werner Faymann said in a statement.
Austria argues that the Hinkley Point C project is in breach of European law and risks distorting the energy market.
The announcement comes just days after an alliance of 10 German and Austrian energy companies also filed a legal challenge at the ECJ against Hinkley Point.
Under the disputed deal, Britain would help fund the construction of two new reactors in southwest England.
As part of the agreement, the British government would guarantee an elevated 35-year fixed electricity rate to French energy group EDF, which would be in charge of the building the plant.

Mayweather stripped of WBO welterweight belt

Reuters
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been stripped of the welterweight world title he won after beating Filipino Manny Pacquiao this year for failing to comply with rules, the World Boxing Organization said on Monday.
Mayweather, who improved to 48-0 by beating Pacquiao in May, missed a deadline by which he had to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee from the fight and vacate the junior middleweight title he also held, the WBO said in a statement.
The WBO said it is against rules for boxers to hold world titles in multiple weight classes and that Mayweather had to indicate which weight division he would retain.
Mayweather, who finished ahead on all three scorecards of what proved to be the top-grossing prize fight of all-time, had until 4:30pm. ET last Friday to advise the WBO of his position.
"The WBO World Championship Committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Floyd Mayweather, Jr. as the WBO Welterweight Champion of the World and vacate his title, for failing to comply with our WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests," the WBO said in a statement.
Mayweather, who earned over $200 million from the fight which generated a record pay-per-view revenue in the United States of $400 million, has two weeks to launch an appeal.

Nasir strikes after Sunny

Nasir Hossain
Star Online Report
Mustafizur Rahman picked up his first wicket of the match when his off-cutter fooled du Plessis all ends up.
The ball stopped on the batsman and induced a leading edge from the Proteas skipper. Faf du Plessis scored 16 runs from 17 balls during his stay at the wicket.

BANGLADESH vs SOUTH AFRICA 2nd T20I
South Africa: 156/4 (19.1/20 over)
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat

Nasir sent back the dangerous de Villiers immediately after dismissing JP Duminy. AB tried to deflect the delivery from Nasir to fine leg but was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim.
AB de Villiers scored 40 runs from 34 balls with six shots across the fence.
Nasir Hossain gave Bangladesh their second wicket when he defeated JP Duminy in flight and produced a leading edge for a straight-forward catch.
Duminy scored six runs from four balls with one boundary to his name.
South Africa’s highest partnership against Bangladesh in T20I was stopped at 95 runs when Arafat Sunny dismissed Quinton de Kock for 44.
Quinton was more positive than his partner AB de Villiers, played 31 balls and smashed four boundaries and two sixes in his knock.
South Africa’s openers Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers took the attack to the Bangladeshi bowlers in the second T20I of the series.
Both of them were quick to dispatch any loose delivery to the boundary and kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos.
Earlier, the Proteas gave legspinner Eddie Leie a maiden T20 cap with Rabada making way.
Bangladesh have a debutant as well in Rony Talukdar, who slots in place of Sohag Gazi.
Those are the only changes from the first game.
South Africa's 52-run win in the first T20 could have left Bangladesh dispirited but there has been a good vibe among the home team in recent months because they have learned how to bounce back.
What will irk them, though, is that this is the first time since November that they have lost the first game of a series.
Bangladesh will also hope their bowling attack can once again contain South Africa, and that their batsmen can find the right blend of discipline and aggression.
Can Bangladesh comeback and square the series?
Or will it be another victory for the Proteas?
