Modi, Hasina witness exchange of land deal documents

Star Online Report
Officials of Bangladesh and India exchanged instruments of ratification of land boundary agreement at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka this afternoon.
Visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina witnessed the event.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and Indian External Affairs Ministry Secretary Dr S Jaishankar exchanged the document on behalf of their respective countries.
“History is made as the instruments of ratification of land boundary agreement are exchanged,” Modi tweeted in minutes after the exchange.
Earlier, Modi, his Bangladesh counterpart Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee jointly inaugurated Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus services at the PMO.
This is Modi's first Bangladesh trip after he took over as the prime minister of India following the landslide victory of his party – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – in Indian election last year.
Both countries are agog with unprecedented expectations that his 34-hour trip would take bilateral relations to a new level and exploit the economic and trade potentials keeping borders open for each other.
Capital Dhaka has already worn a festive look with streets adorned with life-size cutouts of Modi, Mamata and Hasina.
Unlike the trips to other countries -- Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar -- that Modi made in the last one year, his Bangladesh visit is going to be special since with it the two closest neighbours are expected to get the sensitive connectivity (in rail, road and waterways) ball rolling for mutual growth.

Gift from India
Before the two leaders met for the tete-a-tete, Modi presented Hasina with a hand-woven tapestry.
The finely made tapestry from Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh, woven in Jamdani style, was handed over to Hasina.
Located in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, Venkatagiri is famous for handlooms, and its weavers have adopted the fine jamdani weaving technique while assimilating traditional designs of the region, such as the artwork in this tapestry that shows the Kalpavriksh tree and the Kamadhenu cow which are regarded as auspicious and bestower of prosperity, according to a description of the artwork on the Indian PM’s web portal narendramodi.in.
The tapestry has been woven using very fine cotton yarn and pure gold thread, with both the warp and the weft having the same count of cotton yarn, it describes.
The tapestry has been done by Nellore’s national award winning artist and master craftsman Shri Gowrabathini Ramanaiah.

Star Online Report
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit seems to have landed in a soup for endorsing Maggi with the Haridwar Food and Drug Administration serving a notice to her on the claims made in the advertisement, reports The Times of India.
The notice seeks a report from the actress within 15 days on claims made in the advertisement regarding the nutrition value of the '2-minute noodles', an official of Haridwar Food and Drug Administration said.
Maggi recently came under the scanner after samples collected by Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration were reported to be containing Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG) and lead more than the permissible limits.
Nestle India was asked to withdraw a batch of the popular snack from the market by the authorities in Uttar Pradesh recently.
Dixit has been asked to explain how Maggi is good for health and the basis of making the claims.
If the actress fails to respond to the notice within the stipulated time frame, a case could be registered against her, Food Security Officer Mahimanand Joshi said.
